Here is what they've done on purpose: The trial pop-up only becomes invisible when the user closes the window and then shows itself again based on a two-minute timer (or so). When Windows is shutting down and the MSN Winks process gets a notification to exit, the process checks the registry and c:\Windows for msnlogm.exe.
