Review by bloiiing: This software seems to be bugged. I have tried all 1.8.x.x versions on windows XP Home edition. You will be unable to scan because the scanned pages will be erased when you will press the select area button.
In other hand, files are uncompressed in memory and recompressed each time you save. This surely affect the quality of pictures.
